We had an excellent meal at Trattoria dei Cartari in Amalfi. The fried totani with rocket and parmesan, Bolognese, and marinated anchovies, and eggplant parmesan are a must-try. An authentic Italian restaurant with good service and fair prices — highly recommended! Do book a reservation and this is a very popular restaurant. Not recommended at all! We ordered a grilled seafood mix, two pasta dishes, and a salad. One of the pasta dishes never arrived. The service was extremely disappointing — the waiter placed items on the table carelessly rather than serving them properly. The grilled seafood mix cost €30 for a very small portion, and unfortunately, it was neither fresh nor seasoned. Pasta with clams was ok tho, but was not worth €16 from my opinion. Overall, the quality did not match the price, and the experience was far from satisfying. I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine and the outdoor atmosphere. The pasta dishes were cooked to a delightful al dente texture, although I regret that I cannot recall the specific names. The steak was quite satisfactory, being both juicy and tender. The pasta with clams was particularly delicious and is highly recommended, as the flavors were well-balanced and not at all overpowering. The Tiramisu was also quite enjoyable. I found the portions of both the pasta and steak to be quite generous. While the service was a bit slow, likely due to the high volume of customers, I did request olive oil for the bread, which unfortunately never arrived.

Yummy! I want come back and have the fried squid with rucola Parmesan and lemon juice! Incredible! Go there and ask for this dish even if not in the menu! Anchovies were super and chestnut fish too. Unfortunately we were starving and we forgot the pics of our he starters. Nice service and nice location.

A Proper Hidden Gem – Local, Authentic, and Absolutely Delicious We arrived at the harbour by boat, and straight away this place was recommended to us. Later, while browsing a shop in town, a local said the same: “If you want proper food, go up there.” It turns out this is where the people of Amalfi themselves go when they eat out — a spot known for quality, not tourist gimmicks. You’ll find it at the very top of the main street, tucked away from the crowds. No flashy signs, no pressure — just real food, done right. The fried totani with rocket and Parmigiano were spectacular — crispy, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The homemade scialatielli with prawns, clams and calamari were simply outstanding. Cooked al dente, with fresh seafood and a light sauce that brought everything together — a true taste of the Amalfi Coast. Dessert was a smooth, creamy semifreddo — simple, elegant, and just the right finish. We ended up sharing it with extra spoons — it was too good not to. This is real Amalfitano cuisine. Honest, flavourful, unforgettable. Everything was very, very good — the kind of meal you talk about long after it’s over.
