Melbourne Cup Function: The staff were great, the tapas food was generous and tasty and the venue is in a fantastic position - all deserved five stars. The management however deserve minus stars - we lined up for 40 minutes just to get 1 drink, within two hours there was not enough glasses, they ran out of Prosecco and all bubbles, they ran out of Byron Bay Beer, the toilets were disgusting, the big screen was blurry and there was no commentary for the race. The staff were not allowed to just give us a bottle for a table of eight - we could have reused our glasses and poured for ourselves, a jug of light beer and BB beer on the table would have made all the difference. Obviously when the doors open at 11 and your drinks package starts at 11.30 then really how are the staff expected to get hundreds of people a drink at the same time - ludicrous! Went here for breakfast a few days ago. The breakfast was quite nice I had the bruschetta my wife had the keto breakfast. The serving size was quite small the bacon cost extra. The service is pretty minimal. You have to order on the QR code and other then when our meals were dropped didn’t have a check in from a staff member at all. Overall fairly expensive and probably not really worth it. Decided to have brunch here as it was conveniently located opposite our accommodation. Our table was dirty, we had to ask someone to clean it. The food was presented beautifully but tasted pretty average and what was really disappointing was we ordered iced lattes but were given iced coffees instead, which came with ice cream and whipped cream. The view wasn't overly great either and the floors were sticky from I guess the night before and people spilling their drinks. This would probably be a good spot in the evenings but wouldn't recommend it for breakfast, lunch or brunch.

This poor review is purely for the amenities. The unisex toilet is worse than a public toilet. The upstairs toilets are closed altogether. There are three ladies toilets downstairs. One is out of order. One has no toilet paper. One has kitchen roll and blood on the wall. The bin is overflowing. There is no soap. We have made a couple of complaints yet not one person has run 200 m to Woolworths and purchased a couple of boxes of toilet paper. It’s not even 6 pm at Gold Coast 500. The toilets will be backed up and overflowing with the kitchen paper within the hour. Such a shame as this is a beautiful location and we often come here. We enjoyed the oysters. Tunes are pumping. Staff are great. Afraid to have another drink in case I need to use the bathroom!! The manager kindly offered complementary drinks after addressing the issue.

As good as it looks. The view is sadly the only good part of our visit. After our first bad experience (after years of great food) we decided to give surfers pavilion one last try and were unfortunately even more disappointed. ‘Fresh’ prawns had freezer burn. The grilled prawn was ok but it said it was cooked with miso but couldn’t taste that at all nor the wasabi mayo. Lobster roll didn’t taste like anything really. Just tasted like frozen shredded something. The dish was also missing the cucumber. We had the battered fish tacos which stated a chipotle salsa but there was no chipotle nor any flavour at all. Whilst being over smothered in sour cream. The mussels were good and we used that sauce to flavour the rest of our meal sadly. They’ve shrunk the serving of the garlic bread but kept the same price which is disappointing. The saddest past for us is they removed so many good items from their menu especially the tempura prawns with the wasabi mayo. Not sure what they’ve changed but the mayo ain’t the same. Sadly our time here is done. We would come a couple of times a month but now will not be returning. Service is also always shocking. No one knows anything, ever. Toilets always gross. This place is going downhill fast.
