Such delicious ramen here!! We were able to walk up without a reservation and get a table which was very convenient after a long day of walking around Kyoto. The service was overall good (they definitely want people in and out of here quickly, which isn’t uncommon of restaurants in Japan). The seating area we were in was a bit odd (long table with bar height seating where you are facing other guests). We came here for the ramen which was heavenly and overall had a good experience. Engine Ramen is a true gem for ramen lovers. Their gluten-free options are outstanding—crafted with care so that those with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities can enjoy ramen without compromise. The noodles have great texture, the broths are rich and layered with flavor, and every bowl feels thoughtfully balanced. Even beyond the gluten-free menu, the ramen here is simply delicious, with bold, satisfying taste that keeps you coming back. It’s rare to find a place that excels in both inclusivity and culinary quality, but Engine Ramen delivers on both fronts. Highly recommended for anyone craving a flavorful, comforting bowl of ramen. ****TOURIST TRAP**** I hate to leave bad reviews, but this place is a tourist trap. I had the mindset of “it’s Japan, you can’t have a bad meal”. I was wrong! The ramen was very disappointing for myself and my wife. My ramen I believe #1 on the menu, was so bland! The ramen at the 7-11 tasted so much better. I don’t know why they would load up so much green onions in ramen. The char sui, was flavorless. The broth did not have any depth whatsoever. The only positive note of this place was the service. Everyone was super friendly.

I came here after seeing a video about it online. I guess that was my big mistake because it was definitely a tourist trap. Right at the edge of nishiki market. This place serves ramen that might be good for tourists who don’t typically have ramen. Compared to the other ramen I’ve had in Japan, it was definitely underwhelming. Tasted like something you might get at a basic ramen restaurant in the US. I wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for an authentic bowl of ramen in Japan. The energy of the staff was great and they were friendly. Just wouldn’t recommend the food.
