I visited Camphor on a Thursday evening specifically in search of a French-style steak frites experience similar to what you’d find at L’Entrecôte. They offer a prix fixe menu featuring steak, fries, green salad, and baguette with butter, so it seemed like the perfect place to try. Ambience & Service The restaurant has a beautiful setting — a restored warehouse with high ceilings, stylish decor, and a lively vibe. It feels both modern and comfortable. Staff were friendly, professional, and very attentive throughout the evening. I started with a St. Germain cocktail, which was light, refreshing, and well-balanced. Starters The green salad with tomato and shallot vinaigrette was fresh, bright, and a great way to start the meal. The baguette, however, was disappointing. It wasn’t clear if it was house-baked or sourced from elsewhere, but it was dry both inside and out, lacking the crisp crust and airy softness of a traditional French baguette. For a French-inspired menu, this felt like a missed opportunity. Main Course – Steak & Fries The steak was a hanger cut — a good quality piece of beef and cooked well. Unfortunately, the sauce accompanying it was quite underwhelming. Rather than evoking the classic, savory, mustard-herb complexity of an authentic entrecôte sauce, it leaned heavily toward sweetness and felt off-balance. For a dish where the sauce should be the star, this was the most disappointing part of the experience. The fries were another letdown. They were a bit dry, the portion was modest, and unlike traditional steak-frites restaurants, there was no offer of a refill. Given the simplicity of the dish, the expectation is for generous, crisp, golden fries — and this fell short. Dessert The meal ended on a high note with a lemon tart that was excellent: bright, tangy, and well-executed. Overall Camphor is a beautiful restaurant with attentive service and a strong cocktail and dessert game. However, if you’re going with the expectation of a classic French steak frites experience, you may be disappointed. The baguette lacked authenticity, the fries were skimpy, and the sauce — the soul of the dish — was off balance and far from what you’d find at an entrecôte. On its own terms, Camphor offers a stylish night out with unique house interpretations, but given the portion sizes and uneven execution, it feels overpriced We had the Onion Tartine with the Oysters to start, followed by the Rib Eye (Medium Rare) and Agrodolce Chicken as our mains, accompanied by the potatoes and seasonal veggies (asparagus). To drink I had a Trocadero. Everything was exceptional, the drink especially. I was happy with the service with the only possible mention being that the staff seems a tad unsure, at times, in their interactions with guests. Other than that, well worth the cost, and the Chicken was phenomenal, truly well done in all aspects, especially the sauce. Came in to celebrate my dad’s birthday and everything was beyond wonderful! We ordered a bit more than half the menu and every single item stood out on its own and was memorable. I normally don’t order chicken when eating out but the chicken breast was one of the most unique and well prepared chicken items we’ve ever had. The tartar, oysters, onion tartine, baguette and chèvre butter WOW, scallop, asparagus… literally everything was to die for. The martini was also unbelievable. Cant wait to come back for the burger.

Truly one of those experiences you have to feel for yourself. The food was outstanding, the service flawless, and the music set the perfect tone. What began as a casual date night became an instant favorite. Grateful for the hospitality, already planning our return. 🌟

I had a wonderful dinner here! The space is chic and inviting, and the team was attentive from the moment we walked in. Our server, Noah, was knowledgeable and guided us perfectly through the menu. We enjoyed the table side Dover sole, which was deboned flawlessly and absolutely phenomenal, highly recommend. The mocktails were all delicious, and the marzipan dessert was incredible. The vibe is elevated and elegant, yet still hip. Overall, a 10/10 experience!
