Dinner at Azul Histórico in Mexico City was nothing short of magical. From the moment you step into the open-air courtyard surrounded by ancient trees and soft lighting, you can feel the history and elegance that make this restaurant so special. But it’s the food that truly steals the show. I ordered the enchiladas with mole, and I’m not exaggerating when I say they gave me chills with every single bite. The depth of flavor in the mole — rich, complex, slightly sweet, and perfectly balanced with spice — is something you can only find in a place that honors true Mexican culinary tradition. Each enchilada was tender and beautifully plated, showcasing the chef’s dedication to both taste and presentation. The service was warm and attentive without ever feeling rushed. Our server took the time to explain the origins of several dishes and helped us choose an excellent local wine to pair with dinner. The atmosphere is romantic yet lively, ideal for both couples and small groups wanting to experience the best of authentic Mexican cuisine in a sophisticated setting. Azul Histórico absolutely lives up to its reputation as one of Mexico City’s must-visit restaurants. The combination of heritage, artistry, and heart in every dish makes it unforgettable. I’ll be dreaming about those enchiladas and mole until my next visit — truly a culinary experience that touches the soul. This restaurant is one of my favorites in CDMX! I tried for the first night chiles in nogada and wow the dish was impeccable! We fried escamoles and the tortilla soup and it was great too. Dessert as well. Will definitely come back soon. The waiters were very nice and told us the story about our dishes. This place was cool, I was just looking for a place to have a drink and relax. Ended up with a meal, a conversation and a great drink. Walked in and needed a seat at the bar, which is in a different area, away from the seated area. It was cool had it all to myself so the waiters were attentive. They even brought out some tapas with my drink. The environment of this place is outstanding..from a living wall, to keeping a relic of the past in the bar; hint it has to going to the bathroom. Oh and the trees all lit up are a great vibe for a dinner date.

I was expecting more from all the recommendations we received from this place, but starting from the service with all the servers having an attitude, everyone liked what they ordered, except I thought the rice that came with my shrimp was awful. To me rice should be simple to make and coming from a restaurant with such commotion it should serve at least decent rice. Didn’t get too many pics since it was dark and the lighting inside doesn’t help.

This was by far the best meal I had during my week in CDMX! Both the passion fruit and tamarind margaritas were incredible, as was the guac! The duck mole with steamed fruit was also delicious, plus it came with tortillas that were pure art. Of course, the ambiance and the shops surrounding it above were the cherry on top!
