I made an online reservation at The Salmon in Oslo to ensure a cozy spot indoors, as the evenings are getting colder. We were seated next to the wall where they smoke the salmon, which added a unique and authentic touch to the experience. The restaurant itself is beautifully designed and has a nice, relaxed vibe. What really stood out was the educational side of the place — much of the space is dedicated to learning about the salmon life cycle and sustainable aquaculture. From interactive touch screens to a live hatchery, it’s impressive to see where the salmon on your plate actually comes from. As for the food, it tasted fresh and was nicely presented, but the prices were surprisingly high. Considering salmon is such a staple food in Norway, I expected it to be more reasonably priced. Dinner for three, with no drinks (just water), came to over $220 — quite expensive for what we had. The location, however, is lovely — right by the river with a peaceful view. And to top it all off, we were lucky enough to see the northern lights dancing over the Oslo Fjord as we walked up to the restaurant, which made the evening unforgettable. My 2 cents: A wonderful concept and dining experience worth visiting once, but be prepared for steep prices. Even though my reservation was at 8:30 PM, they kindly let me in earlier a very nice gesture. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming. I ordered the Oyster Trilogy, Salmon Trilogy, and Salmon Abiru Maki Sushi and I loved all of them. The smoked salmon from the trilogy was absolutely outstanding. The Nøgne IPA beers were also excellent. With two starters and one sushi, I was completely full and satisfied. I also really liked the menu design, it felt like reading a beautifully crafted newspaper, and I got lost in it for a while. All in all, this is a restaurant that truly deserves 4.75 out of 5. Its Google rating is definitely accurate and well-earned. Thank you The Salmon! 10/10 experience here! The salmon here taste very fresh and portion size is very good. The hot smoked salmon is my favourite. The staff are very nice and attentive to our needs too, helping us to portion food for sharing as well. A must visit in Oslo, but remember to make your reservation because they are really very very popular! 😊

The Salmon – Oslo We made a late afternoon stop at The Salmon and were pleasantly surprised by how perfect the timing and setting were. Right on the Oslofjord, the location alone makes it worth a visit — breezy, scenic, and ideal for relaxing after a day of exploring. We grabbed a table outside, soaking in the water views, and it quickly became one of those unexpectedly great travel moments. We ordered the salmon sashimi platter, the salmon crunch roll, and the snow crab roll — all beautifully presented and incredibly fresh. The sashimi, in particular, stood out for its buttery texture and clean flavor. The rolls were balanced and flavorful without being overly fussy, which made them a great mid-afternoon choice rather than a heavy sit-down meal. For drinks, we went with an Aperol spritz, a beer, and a glass of wine — all solid choices that complemented the seafood well and kept the mood light. The vibe here is easygoing but stylish, and it’s clear they care about both quality and presentation. Service was friendly and unhurried, which suited the setting perfectly. If you’re looking for a relaxed place to enjoy excellent salmon while watching the water and people pass by, this is a fantastic pick. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to linger a bit longer than planned.

A lovely museum staff member who gave us an amazingly informative tour. He was super knowledgeable, and we learned a lot about Norwegian salmon farming. The food was really tasty too.
