Ambiance: The restaurant has a beautiful and warm rustic charm, with brick walls, cozy lighting, and an inviting interior that sets the tone for a pleasant evening. Food Highlights: • Popo’s Pot Stickers: This was the one dish I didn’t enjoy much. The sauce was too strong and masked the delicate flavor of the dumplings, which was disappointing. • Chicken Cordon Bleu: Crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside. The cream sauce complemented the chicken nicely. The mashed potatoes were a great pairing, and the cherry tomato on the plate was a sweet, juicy surprise. • Grilled Half Chicken: This was a standout. The chicken was tender, well-seasoned, and had a refreshing citrusy flavor. The mushrooms soaked up the lemony sauce beautifully, and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. Adding the sauce to the mashed potatoes was a game-changer—it brought everything together. Service: Impeccable. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu—his recommendations did not disappoint. We were seated quickly, served promptly, and received the check without delay. It’s rare to find this level of efficiency and warmth combined. Overall Verdict: Highly recommended for both the ambiance and service, and of course, most of the food! While the pot stickers weren’t to my taste, the rest of the meal more than made up for it. The restaurant itself is beautiful especially if you go at night. There are plenty of tables and it is usually busy. We ordered the ceviche and pork spring rolls to begin. The ceviche had a bright mayonnaise based sauce served with plantain chips which added a nice touch. The pork spring rolls though tasty, were brought sitting in the sweet and sour sauce which made the pastry less crispy and also made certain parts overloaded. The garlic shrimp was overdone and lacked vibrancy. We paired it with a Caesar salad that was a bit on the sweet side and could have benefited from citrus. The chicken cordon bleu was creatively presented, the blue cheese flavour was gentle, there was a light smoke coming from the Serrano ham. The coconut tartelette was disappointing. The pastry was well execute, the tart brought out warm and nicely plated. It is not that it was a bad dessert, it's that you can't actually taste the coconut much except but rather just feel it's texture. Given it's a coconut tart, it defeats the purpose. Service was patchy. I heard such good things and was looking forward to dinner at Laurel, but it was not to be. Two of us ordered pasta di mare; on one of the plates all mussels were closed - big no-no!!!!! They did not offer to change it or offer something else, the server simply confirmed mussels should not be eaten if they are closed..I got the tuna tartare and not only was it bland and boring but the sesame oil was rancid to the point of being bitter. When the food came, three of us were served at the same time but the fourth had to wait a good fee minutes while the rest watched their food getting cold. A more minor detail - the place is badly lit. Nothing wrong with soft lighting but the food should be better showcased visually. Overall not a great experience especially for the price.
