About This Tour
Join us on a 2 hour walking tour as we explore the streets of Fitzroy's old crime district and get to know the colourful characters who lived in Melbourne's old crime district 100 years ago. The Fitzroy True Crime Walking Tour is constructed and delivered by writer and historian Michael Shelford and utilises the original police files from the era 1890-1920's. Former brothels, speak easies, gangland murders and shootouts with cops, are just a few of the subjects featured on the tour. Each tour member receives a free booklet which contains photos of the characters discussed along the way. Fitzroy is located on the fringe of Melbourne's CBD and is easily accessible by regular trams to and from the City.

Special Instructions
The walking tour will meet at the main entrance doors to Melbourne Museum, 9 Nicholson St, Carlton. Please try to get to the starting point 10 minutes before starting time, otherwise try to contact the host, Michael Shelford, on 0422 525 565. Most of the tour will be on streets without shade or shelter so please take this into consideration when planning for sun protection and inclement weather. It is a 2 hour walk so comfortable footwear is recommended. Although there are shops along the way it would be preferred if you could bring along your own snacks and drinking water if possible. We must inform you that the tour contains information regarding violent and potentially upsetting historical occurrences. It also includes references to prostitution. Any children must be accompanied by a parent or responsible guardian. The tour works a circuit of the southern part of Fitzroy and concludes near the corner of Napier and Gertrude St, Fitzroy, around 2 hours later. There are regular trams that stop near the beginning and end points. Tram Routes 86 and 96 both stop at Melbourne Museum and are only a couple of stops from Melbourne's CBD. The 86 and 11 trams are both close to the finish point to take you back to the city. See you there!
